nine years ago, Beck briefly lived up to their terrific name, with an insanely addictive hit single called “Rowboat”. Now signed to Beck’s Mute Records, the title track from second album “Stereopathetic Soul Manure” leads Beck’s back-to-school campaign. Stereopathetic Soul Manure isn’t so much a record, as a great effort at dragging you into another world. Enjoy the show.
If you are a Beck fan, you will love Rowboat. Thunder Peel is a bit of a show-tune. Simply the finest work ever from this multi-talented singer. One of the songs that always stick in my mind is The Spirit Moves Me because the melody in the chorus is so good. Crystal Clear (Beer) is simple, dignified and effective, Beck refusing to over-emote, and demonstrating that less is more. This track, in particular, has the kind of undeniably catchy flavor. No Money No Honey (Pt 2) has a fun tempo. 8.6.82 is perhaps one of the best tracks of the past decade. Total Soul Future (Eat It) has to be one of the most beautiful tracks on the entire album. One Foot In The Grave to me is the best you can get from Beck. This is one hell of a track. Aphid Manure Heist (Pt 2) - To me, this is the best song on the Stereopathetic Soul Manure. Aphid Manure Heist (Pt 3) - This one makes me want to not only sing along. Today Has Been A Fucked Up Day defines beauty, yet is as unforgiving as an astringent stone. ”rollins Power Sauce” is just a great song and one well worth taking the time to give it a good listen. This track is possibly the biggest guilty pleasure on Stereopathetic Soul Manure. In 11.6.45 Beck spins a tale you want to hear to the end. It is succeeded by an outstanding track, however: Cut 1/2 Blues, which shows, blatantly, how much Beck has evolved as a singer. Jagermeister Pie is one of these floating songs. From the moment you listen to Ozzy you’re hooked. Dead Wild Cat on Stereopathetic Soul Manure is solid and easy to listen to. This track is a killer, it just grabs you instantly. 8.4.82 - is a breath or fresh air compared to many previous songs of Beck. Tasergun - This one has a powerful beat and a good melody. Don’t judge Modesto on the first listening.
