Bag Of Tricks isn’t so much a record, as a great effort at dragging you into another world. Since completing 1994’s ‘Alison Hell (Remastered)’, Annihilator fulfilled their contract with Virgin Records and where under no obligation to release another album. Stanley Donwood has compared writing for Annihilator’s new album to that on ‘Bag Of Tricks’ - but has declared the lyrics will be even more terrifying. Overall, I would highly recommend Bag Of Tricks CD.
From the moment you listen to Phantasmagoria (Demo) you’re hooked. Back To The Crypt - A catchy, upbeat tune. I like Gallery because it’s extremely catchy and has awesome drumming. Human Insecticide (Live) is one of the coolest songs Annihilator has ever recorded. The Fun Palace (Extended Mix) - This one makes me want to not only sing along. When I listen to W.T.Y.D. (Live) in my car when traffic ain’t going so good. This track is clearly meant to showcase Annihilator’s vocal abilities. Live Wire (Live) gives taste of what makes Annihilator special as a musician. This track makes my mind whirl and vibrate with flowing energy. This track is a killer, it just grabs you instantly. Bats In The Belfry (Demo) catches attention immediately, Get Bag Of Tricks and turn on Evil Appetite if you are going to sip your wine late at night. Music of Gallery ‘86 is gentle, never overbearing. Alison Hell ‘86 stands out to me for its audacious melody and sheer beauty. Phantasmagoria ‘86 - Annihilator first major hit.
