Since Ambient - Various Artists last CD (A Brief History Of Ambient Vol. 1 (CD 1)) on Capitol Records back in 1993, I have felt a massive void in my life. Jim Jones has compared writing for Ambient - Various Artists’s new album to that on ‘A Brief History Of Ambient Vol. 1 (CD 1)’ - but has declared the lyrics will be even more terrifying. Lead single “Harold Budd / Flowered knife shadows” and “Tangerine Dream / Thru metamorphic rock (Edit)” start with near-whispers before kicking into giddily catchy, fuzz box-driven hollered hooks. It is very deep stuff - very exciting
Tangerine Dream / Thru metamorphic rock (Edit) is a bit of a show-tune. Robert Fripp & Brian Eno / Evening star is a nice, innocuous song, and much better than anything Ambient - Various Artists released so far. Such hits like Amorphous Androgynous / Mountain goat will leave you hooked. Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan / Sea of vapours is one of the most beautiful songs ever to grace my stereo. Hawkwind / The forge of Vulcan is a perfect song and it grows on you. Killing Joke / Requiem (A floating leaf always reaches the sea dub mix) is another strong production from Ambient - Various Artists. Brian Eno / An ending (Ascent) gets you up and jumping. Richard Horowitz / Marnia’s tent is the song that really did it for me. Irmin Schmidt & Bruno Spoerri / Rapido de noir is such a marvelous and optimistic song that things can get just better. Ashra / Kazoo is a song that takes you on the journey before it reaches the conclusion. Harold Budd & Brian Eno / Their memories is an underrated song: I like its lyrics and melody a lot. Grid / Leave your body is a song to enjoy for years to come. This track is nearly perfect if not perfect.
