There is no doubt that Alan Stivell has talent. Again is an amazing album, racked with beauty. While no new Alan Stivell album is in sight, the artist has been road testing new songs during 1994 tour in Africa. Alan Stivell “Again” is an amazing album.
Get Again and turn on An dro / tha mi sgith if you are going to sip your wine late at night. Ar an garraig / telenn wad catches attention immediately, The foggy dew (3:05) a good melody. Suzy Mc Guire (Siobhan Ni Dhuibhir) is probably the highlight of the album. Suite irlandaise is a romantic if not formulaic ditty. Spered hollvedel is a bit of a show-tune. What sets Son ar chistr apart is Alan Stivell’s innovative and organic way of creating atmospheres. Marv ma mestrez is pretty funky and mellow. Put Kimiad into car stereo for your highway driving It is succeeded by an outstanding track, however: Suite des montagnes, which shows, blatantly, how much Alan Stivell has evolved as a singer. Metig is sonically very melodic with nice haunting verses. Some of the arrangements found on Again are surprisingly edgy. Some call Bal-ha-dans-plinn from Again as a quiet invitation of an artist to sit and listen. O’Neil’s march/The king of the fairies to me is the best you can get from Alan Stivell. Ian Morrisson reel is such a astounding and optimistic song that things can get just better. This track is a fabulous selection of easy listening, suitable for any age, taste or occasion.
