Al-Kindi Ensemble was a flawless and timeless record. Not surprising from Al-Kindi Ensemble and Sufi Songs of Damascus together. John Digester has compared writing for Al-Kindi Ensemble’s new album to that on ‘Sufi Songs of Damascus’ - but has declared the lyrics will be even more terrifying. eleven years ago, Al-Kindi Ensemble briefly lived up to their terrific name, with an insanely addictive hit single called “Al-Salam Al-Rabi: Taqsim Huzam/Taqsim Sikah/Mawwal Sikah”. I Love Sufi Songs of Damascus from start to finish!
I can’t stop humming along Al-Salam Al-Rabi: Taqsim Huzam/Taqsim Sikah/Mawwal Sikah. Ghayri Ala S-Sulwan Qadir…: Taqsim Rast Qanun/Taqsim Rast Nay/Layali Rast/Ibtihal Bayyati is perhaps one of the best tracks of the past decade. Other tracks are good but your best bet is to stick with Ghayri Ala S-Sulwan Qadir…: Taqsim Rast Qanun/Taqsim Rast Nay/Layali Rast/Ibtihal Bayyati. Al-Kindi Ensemble sings his heart out in Chanting (Tartil) Of The Qur’an.
