On Ahmad’s Blues album, Ahmad Jamal have renewed their membership in the ‘if it ain’t broke…’ school of songwriting. This is the first studio album from Ahmad Jamal since bad diagnosis in 1994. Jim Jones has compared writing for Ahmad Jamal’s new album to that on ‘Ahmad’s Blues’ - but has declared the lyrics will be even more terrifying. I love this album so much, i’ve been crazy about Ahmad Jamal ever.
In It Could Happen To You the light shines equally on lyrics, vocals and instrumentation. The song I Wish I Knew ending is my favorite… so catchy! Vocal harmonies in this track are great and song structure is just right. Stompin’ At The Savoy is really the reason why I recommend buying Ahmad’s Blues. In Cheek To Cheek the music gets its power. The Girl Next Door is another favourite of mine. This track is full of harmonies and gets Ahmad’s Blues off to a relaxing start. The opening track Squatty Roo is very much like you would expect from other albums. I came to like Taboo. Autumn In New York - This one is lively and fun. A Gal In Calico presents the amazing mix of instruments on Ahmad’s Blues. This is one of those songs that musicians strive to write and create. Music of Should I? is gentle, never overbearing. Seleritus is outstanding work of Ahmad Jamal. Let’s Fall In Love hits the heart.
